Sainsbury's School Games Gold Mark Award

GOLD Kite Mark Award for PE

We are very pleased to announce that we have achieved the GOLD standard Kite Mark award for our provision in PE. The School Games Mark is an awards scheme which rewards schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school. Ofsted use the Mark award as part of their inspection framework and schools can use it as a development tool to aid the PE teacher or Headteacher.

Steve and Ross, our PE teachers from South Coast Sports (SCS), teach excellent lessons across the school and improve not only the levels of physical activity of our children, but their skill and motivation levels too in a wonderful variety of sports such as Netball, Basketball, Handball, Football, Cricket, Gymnastics, Hockey, Bat & Ball, Rounders, Tennis, Athletics & more.

Summer 2017 Sports Events:

We played tough opposition in our League A matches:                        Handcross v. Balcombe          Handcross v. St Giles
                                                                                                                                  19 for 5  : 60 for 4                        33 for 4 : 25 for 4

With 1 win and 1 loss, we then went on to play Warninglid in the playoffs for 3rd and 4th:                 Handcross v. Warninglid
                                                                                                                                                                                          11 for 7 : 34 for 3

Despite putting in some strong fielding and noticeably increasing confidence throughout, we finished in 4th overall.

Team: James A-B, Riley, Harvey, Leon G, Oonagh, Keira, Khadija, Emily

Unfortunately this was cancelled on the day for the safety and wellbeing of all the children involved due to  incredibly hot weather conditions.

HOCKEY TRAINING (selected Y4 & Y5 pupils):

Although generally a winter sport, we were extremely fortunate to receive invitations to hockey training sessions at Handcross Park School (June 22nd) and Worth Abbey (June 23rd). Handcross Park arranged a fabulous afternoon for our players in which we developed our basic skills, learnt some new ones and finished with a short match.

Players: Roisin, Amelia, Chloe, Georgia G, Harriet B, Sara, Odilja, Adam, David, Michael, Henry, Luke & Archie M

The event at Worth Abbey was also attended by pupils from Crawley Down school, and proved to be a great opportunity for both schools to mix and work together with pupils they would not normally meet at sports fixtures / events within their respective locality groups.

Players: Jake, Lee, Tom, Oliver, Roisin, Amelia (Felix was unable to play on the day)

OUR SPORTS DAY (July 6th):

This year's event saw strong competition across Infant, Junior and whole school events. The overall winning House was Blue ... with only 3 points separating them from Yellow who finished 2nd. Red were 3rd and Green 4th.

Ellie Fowler (Y6) and Finn Buckfiled (Y3) won the Girl's 400m and Boy's 400m races respectively.

It was a great morning of sport and we would once again like to thank Handcross Park School for allowing us to use their grounds and of course all the parents, carers, other family members & friends who came to watch.

Hall of Fame

Ella Johncock, Year 6

Ella has been doing athletics at K2 since she was 6 years old and was asked to join the hurdles squad at Crawley Athletics Club. She has only been training for hurdles for a couple of months but has already competed and is doing really well even after a bad accident, cutting her hand with her spikes and being in hospital. Her sprint work is coming along brilliantly too, beating her PB. She is now selected to compete in the U13 league for both events.

You can keep a check on how Ella does on Power of 10 which holds all athletes races and times here.
