Design Technology (DT)
At Handcross we recognise the value of design and technology to help to prepare our children for the developing world and encourage them to become creative problem solvers. Through the study of design and technology, we combine practical skills with an understanding of aesthetic, social and environmental issues.
At Handcross we use the ‘Design, Make, Evaluate’ approach to the teaching of DT. The technical skills which we teach encompass the following areas: Construction, Mechanisms, Textiles and Food and Nutrition which we try our best to link to topics being taught.
During DT sessions, children are encouraged to be inquisitive about the way products work which will help them to become discriminating and informed consumers and potential innovators.
